Basical Media Style Guide

Creating a brand is hard. When there is no pressure or unusual direction, it’s a fun creative process. On the other hand, to produce an identity for a business that is going to help give them credibility, show professionalism and make their customers feel trust, can be a daunting task. Basical Media was actually a great design job but I did feel the pressure of producing something special. I originally produced three logos with very different directions. I had a favorite, as usual it was not chosen but ultimately the best decision was made. Then came a style guide, fonts, colours, business cards and then a website. The website was a bit of an experiment into responsive web design using one style sheet, some cunning floats and a little php.
Luckily, the Basical Media guys showed faith in my work and I think the result has just the dash of cool that their market will appreciate.

A light hearted WordPress theme

December 3rd, 2012 — 10:54am

I felt like making a theme that was a little less serious than others. Something just for the fun of it. I was thinking something just a little bit hipster without being hipster if that makes sense. There are so many WordPress themes aimed at a certain type of business but few with a certain type of person in mind. I figured I’d loosen up and enjoy myself, just for the hell of it. A bunch of coding hours later the fun was had and the theme was done. ‘Bearded Theme’ is now available on theme7.net

Panda Pottery

October 16th, 2012 — 4:41pm

When I read an email asking me if I could create a logo featuring a Panda, I was stoked. Any excuse to sit around drawing pictures of cute pandas, also being a potter formerly, I felt I had something to offer experience wise. These guys are setting up a neat pottery decoration business where they set up parties so people can paint cool stuff on pots. It’s very popular globally but with nothing in Hong Kong as such, they have found a nice niche.

More to come including a website pandapottery.com

Superslick live on WordPress

June 15th, 2012 — 10:18am

It’s really nice to get my new theme up on the WordPress gallery. It’s certainly not easy to get the code up to scratch with the very strict theme review. You really can’t have a dot out of place! It’s also a good learning exercise digging that deep into WordPress, each time I do something like this it teaches me lots of tricks (usually from troubleshooting problems with the theme).

Also, my premium version is up for sale, there are more options and slideshows. It’s more customisable from the theme options rather than needing to be a developer to add logos or change the images on the homepage and make them slide.

Some real website customisation done here. Many templates and workarounds were used to get this multiple slideshow, multisite WordPress job working as the client wanted. Always nice to get a finished product that you are proud of. The work was made easy by the nice folk at Permacrete.
