For all the hard work these ladies have put into designing their range of tre-cool boots and shoes, the results speak for themselves. It has been a pleasure getting this website built and live. The front end blog side has been live for a while but now it is all good to go with a slick online store.
Why not treat the yourself or your better half to a pair of designer boots?

I enjoy the cutsie little drawings and illustration jobs when they come my way. I’m hoping this cute little guy will do the trick. It’s a metaphor for ‘no need to stick your neck out’.

Is it a bird?… Yes, yes it is! According to outdated slang… Or was that Superman? Anyway, Spider Woman is a new Tasmanian company specialising in pest control with humane, safe, environmentally friendly methods. They came to me with a logo and a youtube video and wanted to get on the web. I was happy to help… Check them out if you need some creepy crawlies removed! www.spiderwoman.com.au

I hear people say ‘I could do that in five seconds’ in reference to logos. Especially simplified, symbolic logos. Ironically, that is the hardest thing to do in my line of work.
Creating truly functional, meaningful symbolic logos can have your mind in knots and lose days of your life. I have been assigned to creating a logo for earth house. They create beautiful environmentally sound building projects and houses and are wanting to branch out a little. They have a long history of working with rammed earth and enviro houses but now want the focus to get away from soil and more towards ‘Earth’ or mother nature. Not to mention that they create schools, offices, apartments and shops so ‘house’ is also little redundant…
I have to say, designing a logo for an architecture firm is akin to making a fizzy drink for Coke. Not one to back down from a challenge, I’ll give it my best.
This image is of my tree of logos as it evolves down. It’s a process of distilling, reducing, simplifying and stylising until it is just right. More to come.

In a former life I wanted to be a cartoonist. I have a little talent for drawing funny little critters but putting strips together has always been a mystery. Naturally, when a customer asked for a little character to put on their website, I offered my services (any excuse really). These guys are a Skype type of service but they have mega high quality and are able to set up ultra slick video conferencing mono e mono. They also can have heaps of people video chatting at once without needing a techy in the office (which is cool). I did a few sketches, I had a Giraffe (no need to stick your neck out) a bee (they are called Being There) lame lame lame.
I started to think about telecommunication. Tin cans, phones, morse code, PIGEONS! YEAH!!
So this is my work in progress (sharing is caring)… Hopefully the client is into the idea (probably not) but well… I’m into it.

Mocking up a website is like designing a poster, a poster that has to be coded, fit into many sized screens and has to be able to be viewed on a mobile phone… Successfully.
The client needs to like it, convey what they want and do the job that it is intended. It’s definately the most creative part of designing the website and the hardest. Get the mockup right and your site will look great, get it wrong or don’t bother making the decisions that are required and you have a mess.
Here are a few mockups from the last couple of weeks, all in different stages of being put together. Watch this space for the finished products as they come through…
